The action was taken by the NL.N Board of Review for baccalaureate and higher degree programs. It followed a self- evaluation study by the department faculty led by Clair E. Martin, and recommendation for accreditation by an NLN visiting team. There are 11 undergraduate degree programs in North Caro- Easter Festival Set An estimated 200 bands are expected to perform over Easter weekend at the Ole Time Fiddler's and Bluegrass Festival in Union Grove, NC. General Admission for the entire festival is $10.00. That includes camping space without water and electricity. Tickets are $8.00 a piece for both Friday and Saturday, and $5.00 for Saturday only. Una. Monday's announcement clu- minated an effort begun in 1966 when WCU , at the urging of hospitals facing a critical shortage of nurses, moved into the nursing field. Its four-year program was approved in 1968 by the State Board of Higher Education and the N. C. Board of Nursing, received funding from the 1969 General Assembly, and earned state accreditation from the Board of Nursing in 1971, In addition to the first 16 graduates who will receive degrees in June, 27 juniors, 55 sophomores and 79 freshmen are enrolled in the program. In announcing the NLN action, WCU Chancellor Jack K. Carlton said "not only the University, but all those in Western North Carolina who saw the need for this program and helped in its development, can be tremendously proud of the work done by Professor Martin as head of the department, the nursing faculty, and the students." Clinical support for the WCU program is provided through affiliations with St. Joseph's, C, J. Harris, Haywood County, Oteen VA, Highlands and the Cherokee Indian hospitals; public health departments in Haywood, Jackson, and Swain counties, and the Smoky Mountain and Blue Ridge mental health clinics. Students in their last two years spend two to three days a week in the hospitals, departments, or clinics under the supervision of faculty members. Dear Students, As the new year of "1973" rolled in, new happenings and events took place on our campus. We were met by some very much needed changes, and some not so needed changes, and we reacted in a semi- Democratic way. With the first announcement of the new policy enacted or shall I say enforced by the new chancellor, we reacted as if someone had placed a pin under our seats. We knew the pin was there, but we wanted to sat down on it just for the thrill of being stuck. Many of us reacted to the sticking and didn't know what we were being stuck for. With our first call to arms, the walk to the Chancellor's house, approximately 300 students marched to the drive of the Chancellor's home. This is about 3% of the total campus population. Now there is a serious question that I must ask all students that participated in the march. Did everyone there know why we were marching? Think about it. I as a passer-by didn't really know what was going on. I had only heard rumors of what was happening. I'm sure that half of the people that were in the march were in the same category. Another question comes to mind. Where was the other 97% of the campus population? I'm sure that they were not studying. Because 250 of the studious persons are no longer with us this quarter. Is it that they didn't care? Or was the problem lack of interest in campus affairs? To me this was a sign of non student involvement and the general "apathy" common here at WCU. that is If elected 1 propose to get the students involved in the affairs of the campus. I propose to do this by getting the incoming freshmen and sophomores interested in what's going on in SGA, their residence halls and the community of WCU on a hold. I would like to see more channels of communication between SGA and our silent uninformed student body. Your support would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, James Burris Election ....
