  • Friday, October 9, 1964 The Western Carolinian Page 7 Tharpe Shown In Action PICTURED HERE ARE DANNY THARPE (Number 80) returning an intercepted pass against Presbyterian College in a pre-season scrimmage, and Jim Fortenberry (Number 27) coming up to lead the interference. Tharpe is playing his first year of football at Western Carolina and has been outstanding at linebacker. He has also on occasion been called upon as a pass receiver. It was the second scrimmage game between the two teams with each team coming out a victor on the two separate occasions. (Photo by Parrish) Feedback —Continued from page 3 scheduled to leave campus. Our question is "why was there not a doctor on hand for an event which had been planned well in advance?" Catawba leads the Carolinas Conference in scoring with 87 points in four games. Elon has been the stingiest about giving up points to the opposition. In three games the Christians have given up a total of only 19 points. Western Carolina has scored 29 points in three games while yielding 60. Presbyterian has the season's single game high scoring total of 47 points against Frederick. Nehi Bottling Company Inc. Why was the Red Cross not prepared to handle the situation? Can students, faculty members and local citizens be expected to return to the Gal lery to donate blood next year if we can't be sure that facilities will be available to take care of the donor? Five Games In Carolinas Conference For Weekend Five games are scheduled for Carolinas Conference teams tomorrow, only two being league contests: Western Carolina at Catawba and Appalachian at Lenoir Rhyne. In non-conference matches, Elon is host to Camp Lejeune, Davidson is at Presbytedian, and Carson- Newman meets Newberry. The outlook: Davidson at Presbyterian: Presbyterian suffered its first loss of the season last week at the hands of Wofford, 22-9, after two victories, and should go down to defeat again tomorrow afternoon at the hands of the Davidson Wildcats, say 20- 14. Carson-Newman at Newberry: The Eagles of Carson-Newman should hand Newberry its fourth loss of the season tomorrow night as they continue their winning ways against Carolinas Conference teams (having previously defeated Western Carolina). Probable score: 10-6. Appalachian at Lenior Rhyne: The Mountaineers, after suffering their only loss of the season last week to Elon, may experience a letdown tomorrow; and the Bears, having tasted victory over Newberry, will be at their best to try to upset the Apps. Appalachian, however, will settle down and beat the Bears: Appalachian 25, Lenoir Rhyne 10. Western Carolina at Catawba: Catawba now appears to be the team to challenge Elon for the conference crown, but the Indians meet Western Carolina and Appalachian before the showdown with the Christians and must win both games to stay alive. The Indians may be looking ahead to Appalachian next week, but should still be good enough to turn back Western Carolina. The Cats have an adequate backfield, and the big line might someday decide to help out with a few blocks. If so, Western may upset somebody this year. Chances are it won't be Catawba, however, as the Indians roll to a 19-3 victory. Camp Lejeune at Elon: The Marines meet the best the Carolinas Conference has to offer as they invade Elon tomorrow. The Christians should have little trouble turning back the service team, say 30-7. Last week's results: 3 right, 2 wrong Season's totals: 11 right, 5 wrong STANDINGS Conf.
