Eight months prior to Pearl Harbor, General Howard went to China to take command of the Fourth Marines at Shanghai. The last act in hypnosism w a fake. Mr. Bob Brown propose' to hypnoze Biss Betty Brow and thereby enable her to recall incidents down to the day after she was born. Betty recalled experiences in the fourth grade with probably some accuracy, but not so of earlier experiences. She was asked to recall her second birthday. She replied, "It was a hot day in the summer." Then when asked what the weather was on the day after she was born, she answered, "It was cold and clear." Maybe the seasons change fast where she was born. The fact still remains that according to Joe Coffee, who has been interested in hypnosis for some time, it is almost impossible to recall incidents further back than the second year. At least not without the help of an intense study of the subject. The Science Circus ended with an act embodying high frequency electricity. This act involved lighting cigarettes, light bulbs, and etcetera from subjects wired so as to transmute high frequency over the surface of their skin. Continued from page 3 to play baseball. If I wanted to fight, I'd take 'em on one at the time and not get entangled with eleven bullies all at once." Adding to his argument as to the greatness of the game he presented this fact—"The big team usually has the advantage over the small team in football but if the small team in baseball can use their heads they have just as many chances to win as the larger boys." "Back in the days when Cobb and the rest of us boys used to play ball here in Murphy, there wasn't a single member of the team thought that Cobb or any member of the team would soon become the idol of the baseball world. Cobb's jaunt to the majors was an unexpected happening. When he played here he was a better than average player, but not great." m "The reason Cobb became great was that he asked no quarter and herd, wife of a Navy Lieutenant Commander (SC), and Mrs. Larry B. All he wanted was what he was entitled to by the rules of the game. If he was awarded the base paths and half of the base by the rules he took it. If some one tried to stop him they got hurt and it wasn't always his fault. He never spiked anyone because he had it in his head to do so they just envied his speed, his ability to hit and his undying courage, " added the Peaches' friend. One of the most colorful characters that played with or against the Georgia Peach is Fred Black- well, a 65 year old negro who also resides in Murphy. Blackwell recalled that Cob played with a sandlot team in Big Brasstown, Georgia and that he caught for the Hiwassee nine. "You ask me," he said, "If I thought I was playing with a potential Major League standout?" Mistah Cobb said one day that he was going to play in the League, he didn't say which one but I guessed that it was the "big-time". I knew he was good. Why he was the most active man I ever saw around second base. I don't see why he ever went into the outfield, he sure was good at second." In reply to a question about Cobb being mean, Fred answered, "Mistah Cobb came up the rough way playing ball and he played it rough. He had a quick temper, but was easy to get along with. No suh," the grey headed darkie suiped, "he never spiked no one when we played against each other one reason, he didn't have spikes and the second, he wasn't that type of man." Blackwell first met Ty Cobb in 1S02 while he still lived in Georgia and hasn't seen him since about 1905. The soft-spoken deliberate negro rated him as the best baseball player he ever saw and also rated him as a gentleman. "I've seen some good games, but none in the Majors, and yet I'd call him the greatest of them all." A lot of the stories about the National Pastime still lie uncovered and the outstanding stories bypass what seems to be insignfi- cant—but you won't find a single person that played baseball when the game was in its infancy to say that the game is as good, today or any player will excell the doings of Tyrus Raymond Cobb.
