WALKER Staff Writer You may think there isn't much to do in Cullowhee. This is not necessarily true, thanks to the University Center Board (UCB). The UCB is a non-profit organization on campus which picks, plans, and coordinates many of the events here at WCU such as weekly discos and tournaments. Two events. Casino night and the Halloween funhouse have been favorites here at Western for years. In the past the UCB has been in charge of all the recreational and cultural events in Cullowhee with the exception of the major concerts, which were presented by Student Government Productions. This is no longer true. Vice Chancellor Glen Stillion gave the duties of producing major concerts to the UCB, under the advisorship of Tim Jacobs. Business Manager Mike Fry is proud of the UCB's reputation of fiscal responsibility. At the end of the year thev finished out with ahout seven dollars in their account as opposed to SGP who ended their fiscal vear •$7,000 in the red. \inee all the maior artivities are under the same roof more to do for less money. They will offer seventeen films during the year at a $1 admission charge. I he experimental television station, XUCB will also be offered during the year on the second floor of the UC I en programs will be shown to the students during each semester free of charge. Fry is very happy about the program and mentioned that they might beable to get several programs from the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) to air during the coming year. Although they are still looking for a band to play during Homecoming, they have scheduled the Little Kivcr Band to appear on campus in mid-September.
