  • 12 Entertainment Western Carolinian/September 9, 1982 LAST MINUTE PRODUCTIONS WCU in perhaps unique in its ability to provide to its students such a wide range of local outdoor experiences as: Whitewater ratting. Mountain climbing. Crosscountry skiing, and Downhill skiing. I ast Minute Productions1 "Mountain Ad ventures'* outdoor programs offer beginning and novice instruction, through clinics and trips, in all these areas. All trips and clinics are open to all WCU students at minimum cost. in addition to these local experiences. Mountain Adventures is offering main exciting longdistance trips beginning with the Ocoee Rait trip in Tenneessee on Sepi. I 1th. Fall break will oiler a Whitewater and tamping trip to the Glial ley River in West Virginia, which otters class 5 and 6 rapids with some ol the best and biggest Whitewater rapids in the I astern United States. Christmas break will otter a cross-countr\ and downhill skiing trip to the Colorado Rockies. Spring break will feature sailing in the Florida Keys. Easter break will feature camping and paddling on the Chatooga River in Georgia, and early summer will offer hiking in the Grand Canyon. As you are reading about these experiences, many ol you may be saying. "Who. me??*", "I'm not an outdoor person", or "I've never done anything like that before". Mountain Adventures otters you perhaps your best opportunity ever to learn to be comfortable with the outdoors, to learn or improve lifetime skills, to have a great time, and to become an "outdoor person." LMP Notes .38 Special Headlines by Jeff Brown Last Minute Production's Entertainment Connection is put back into action on Thursday, September 9 with Open Mike Night at 8 p.m. Open Mike Night gives the local Western Carolina University talent an opportunity to show their best. Performers will be Robert Bland. Tim Napier, Mike Springfield, Jay Pascal, Mickey Davis, Bill Melanson and others including a band formerly known as the Generics. John "Hutch" Hutchinson plays lead guitar forthisnew band and they should provide some different quality entertainment. Refreshments will be provided free and there is no admission charge. Come out and see your talented fellow students Thursday night at Open Mike Night. On Friday night the award winning movie "Chariots of Fire" will be shown in Hoey Auditorium at 8 p.m. Admission is SI.50 for students and S2.00 for non- students. We are here to put on the programs you want! The response to LMP's new volunteer program has been tremendous. Appointments for interviews are a daily scene at the Last Minute Productions Office. No more interviews are being taken for this semester but remember LMP will need many volunteers for the .38 Special concert on October 20. November 21-28. Tentative plans call for a variety of activities such as attending plays, louring theatre facilities, seeing Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade Live, viewing the special exhibitions at the art museums and New York's array of Christmas Decorations and Lights, and having seminars with Broadway personalities. The trip is being sponsored in conjunction with the Field Studies Center of New York and will be open to 28 participants. Ihe definite itincry includes tickets to CATS, the musical hit from last season in London; A DOLL'S LIFE, a new musical based on what happened to Nora after she slammed the door in Isben's A DOLL'S HOUSIi; JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT. a musical success from the past season, derived from the Old Testament story: LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS, the hilarious Off-Broadway musical spoof of a 1960 film; and the Radio City Musical Hall Christmas Show. Tentative Seminars with "Dr. Cliff" from the TV Soap ALL MY CHILDREN and one of the performers from JOSEPH....Also included will be an orientation to New York City, a backstage Broadway Tour, a wholesale shopping tour, a tour of Radio City Music Hall. Other tours may be arranged according to the interests of the group. Transportation will be by charter bus, departing Cullowhee Sunday evening, November 21 and returning Nov. 28. Lodging will be at the Edison Hotel on 46th Street and Broadway in Manhatten with four persons sharing each room. Arrangements can be made for single, double, or triple rooms for a higher fee. Approximate cost will be $325.00 plus food and transportation. With the option of seeing four plays rather than live, costs can be lowered to $299.00 A down payment of $150.00 is due September 30 with the balance- due Oct. 30. Transportation costs are due November 15. Although the trip is open to any interested persons, students may earn academic credit in conjunction with the trip by completing a series of readings, papers and classes.
