  • August 24, 1982 21! Speech and Theatre Arts Lineup The Department of Speech and Theatre Arts has announced its lineup of plays for the 1982-83 season. The lineup includes five full-length productions, a series of one-act plays, and a series of Readers Theatre Studio productions. "A Coupla White Chicks Sitting Around Talking" is a dinner theatre production scheduled for September 23- 25 at 6:00 pm in the University Center Grandroom. Written by John Ford Noonan, the play is a delightfully zany comedy on female bonding that has been a long- running off-Broadway hit. It is the only production so far with an established audition date, which is Friday, August 27, at 7:00 pm in the Little Theatre, Stillwell Building. The cast calls for two females only "Little Theo" is an original play with music, written by Constance Head. It is scheduled for October 7-13 at 7:30 pm in the Little Theatre, with a special afternoon matinee also scheduled for 2:30 pm on Sunday October 10 (there is no evening performance on that day. however). The story is a light comedy on how Theodosius 11, fifth century emperor of the Eastern Roman Empire, acquires a wife through the assistance of his sister, Pulcheria. Buried Child", written by Sam Shepard. is scheduled for November 15-20 at 7:30 pm in the Little Theatre. Winner of the 1979 Pulitzer Prize for drama, this powerful and brilliant play probes deeply into the disintegration of the American Dream "Count Dracula". written by Ted Tiller, is scheduled for February 21-26 at 7:30 pm in the Little Theatre Planned as the annual Niggli production, in honor of S I A director emeritus Joselina Niggli, it is the classical story of a suave \ampire whose passion is sinking his teeth into the throats ot young women. Ihe One Act Studio productions (titles to be announced later) are scheduled lor March 9-10 at 7:30 pm in the 1 ittle Theatre A musical (title to be announced later) is scheduled foi April 21-23 at 7:30 pm in the little I heatre. Five Full-length Plays Will Be Presented By the STA Department Art Department Plans Series Of Major Exhibits During the upcoming year, the Art Department plans to present a series of eight major exhibits in the gallery of Belk Building. The first exhibit, opening on Wednesday, August 25. will leaturc works created by members of the Art Department faculty during the pas' six months. New Attitudes In Clay * March 21-April 12 An exhibit by artists whose works In clay express non-tradltlonal attitudes toward the medium. 'Sponsored by Leeturee, Concerts, and Exhibitions Committee The WCU Art Department Has a Busy Year Planned beginning ol each tall semester. This year's exhibit will include some 40 works in such widely diverse forms of art as drawing, painting, photography, sculpturing, ceramics, and glasswork. I he exhibit will continue through September 7. Following this will be a display of woodcuts and lithographs by Jacob Landau, an internationally-known American artist and art educator. This exhibit will open on September 9 and continue through October 5. Opening on October 10. with a 2 p.m. reception,will be the fifth biannial North Carolina Glass ^2 exhibit, organized by the Art Department to display the artistry of the state's renowned glass community. After closing here on Nov. 3, the exhibit will travel to such places as Philadelphia. Birmingham, and Winston-Salem. The final exhibit of the fall semester is an invitational show depicting a universal theme-thehumar figure. This display will open Nov. 8 with a 7 p.m. reception, and continue through December 8. During the spring semester, four more major exhibits will be presented in the Belk Gallery. From Jan. 24 to Feb. 15, the Interior Design Invitational, with award-winning interior designer presentation and products from national and regional design competitons will be presented. From Feb. 21 to March 6, Alumni Invitational, an exhibit by WCU graduates, will be featured, from March 21 to April 12, the exhibit will be New Attitudes in Clay, featuring the non-traditional work of Tom Barnes, from the University of South Florida. From April 18 to May 6 a juried exhibit of recent works by WCU students in a wide range of media, will be presented. Throughout the year, the public is invited to review each show, attend receptions, and make purchases. Regular gallery hours are attend receptions, and make purchases. The concert was a benefit for the organization and ended with a square dance called by Dudley Culp of Burnsville. Musicians, who donated their talents for this concert included Cowbell Hollow String Band of Marshall; Donna Gammon, ballad singer and dulcimer player of Johnathan Creek; Anne Lalley, singer-songwriter of Asheville; Dutch Cove Old Time String Band of Canton; Fred and Jinny Armstrong-Park, folk musicians of Swannanoa; Richard Hurley, singer-songwriter originally from Canton; The Hominy Valley String Band of Candler, and special guest Eddie Marr. bullwhip and lariat expert of the old traveling shows of days gone by!
