  • The Western Carolinian 7 Monday, May 4, 1987 Jazz Swings Spoletto Festival Spoleto Festival USA General Manager Nigel Redden today announced that jazz saxophonist Stan Getz 8c Trio will give one performance only 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 26, at Gaillard Municipal Auditorium, during the 17-day 1987 Festival, which runs May 22 through June 7. Regarded as a jazz legend since the 1950's when he won an unprecedented number of Grammles Including best single, album of the year and best jazz solo, Getz's style is built on the lessons he learned working with Benny Goodman and Jimmy Dorsey. Getz Is best known for both his mastery of the tenor saxophone and his unique ability to discover and develop future trendsetters among today's sldemen. Redden also announced the addition of a performance by Jelon Vleira DanceBrazii, 3:30 p.m. Saturday, May 23, and one by the Jazz Tap Ensemble, 9 p.m. Monday, June 1, both at the Garden Theatre. "The originally scheduled performances by these two extraordinary companies have sold so well in advance that we have decided to add performances to make more tickets available to the public," Redden commented. Jelon Vleira DanceBrazii and the Jazz Tap Ensemble are two of four events on the popular "Footprints In the Garden" Series, sponsored by Philip Morris Companies, Inc. Tickets for Stan Getz & Trio range from »6 to $26, and tickets for Jelon Vleira DanceBrazii and the Jazz Tap Ensemble are '12.50. WCU'S STA — 'Intrigues and Curiousities ff By MARTHA McAFEE STAFF WRITER The Department of Speech and Theatre Arts presented Reader's Theatre "Intrigues and Curiousities." The theatre was a production by STA 420 In Niggli Theatre April 27-28 at 7:30 p.m. Reader's Theatre is a collaboration of Tim Barton, Joel Felty, Phoebe Hall, and Janlna Shoemaker. Members of Reader's Theatre choose their works to be formal offerings of varieties of literary forms such as: prose, poetry, folk, and drama. The Imagination and enthusiasm of the readers is shared by their audiences. Gregg Jones was the Technical Coordinator for the shows and Russell Nail was Stage Manager. The readings were as follows: "The Open Window," "Clever Oretl," "The Champion lllar of Colusa County, A Tall Tale," "Dinosaur Tales," (a pair of poems), "You Were Perfectly Fine," "Rhinoceros," "Moments with Emily Dickinson," and "Dead Call." Up-comlng events at Niggli Theatre for the summer will Include: "Send Me Flowers" by Norman Barash and Carroll Moore-June 11, 12,13.
