Western Carolina College CHORUS in SPRING CONCERT Richard Renfro, director Mary Ruth Harrison, accompanist X May 12, 1955 at 8 o'Clock HUNTER LIBRARY GALLERY Cullowhee, North Carolina 750 Attend Senior Day At College WCC Is Host To WNC Area High Schools CULLOWHEE, May 3-Approxi- mately 750 high school senior: from Western North Carolina participated in the annual High School Senior Day at Western Carolina College today. The program for the day included tours over the campus, educational and recreational events. Assembly from 10 to 11 a. m included a musical program by the Western Carolina College mixed chorus, and the welcome by Paul A. Reid, president of the college. Sixty college students juided the visitors on a tour of the campus and buildings from noon to 2 p. m. The afternoon schedule included: A musical program in the gallery of Hunter Library; recreational swimming in Breese gymnasium: trampoline on the side lawn of the gymnasium: a play, the "Crusi- ble." in the Little Theater of Stillwell Building. Also, a baseball game. WCC . Lenoir-Rhyne; and a tea dance sponsored by the Student Senate. Music was provided by Ralph Flanagan and his orchestra. The high school Senior Day committee included: F. T. Siewert, Mrs. Lillian Buchanan, Miss Helen Hartshorn, Miss Louise Henson, Neil Scott, and Bill Ray. The college acting as guides were Miss Judy Carlock. Buddy Gibson, Jane Morrison, Dick Carpenter, Kay Scott, Dan Mullally, Libby Trent, Dean Barber, Sue Hall, Danny Ballard, Maxine Ballard, Joe Reed, Sue Hooper, Jim McElrath, Sylvia Camlin, Carroll Swanger. Also, Genieve Johnson, Jim Ingram, Kay Siewert, Tommy Williams, Pat Eways, Jim Dayton, Evelyn Mayfield, Jack Finger. This 50-page scrapbook was assembled by Joan Brooks who moved from Candler to Cullowhee, North Carolina in 1954 to attend Western Carolina College. The scrapbook documents her freshman year at WCC from 1954-1955. The scrapbook includes pictures of Brooks’s experiences as a student as well as clippings describing student life and athletics at WCC. Brooks was working towards a Bachelor’s degree in English and Social Science.
