  • 882 Pupils Enrolled For WCC Courses CULLOWHEE, Oct. 27—Official enrollment of 882 was announced today by President Paul A. Reid of Western Carolina College. Buncombe County with 148 stu- . dents leads for the first time in the college's history. Fifty-four counties are represented' this year, an increase of nine counties over last year's 45. The leading counties are Buncombe, 148; Jackson, 128; Haywood, 88; Macon 53; and Henderson, 34. The total enrollment represents an 18 per cent increase over last year's enrollment, and a 67 per cent increase in the last three years or since the fall of 1951. \ There are 171 veterans enrolled. Of these, five are from World War II, and 164 are Korean War veterans. Seventy-six transfer students from other colleges, an increase of 26 over last year's 50, are enrolled. The three leading denominations! represented on the campus are the Baptists with 471, the Methodists! with 187, and the Presbyterians with 73. Other states represented in the enrollment figures are: District of ■Columbia, Florida, Kentucky, %ryland, New York, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.
