  • J. A. HOLMES, State Geologist. NORTH CAROLINA GEOLOGICAL SURVEY. < CPA #3 ■ showing the general location of the proposed Park and porest Reserve in the southern Appalachian mountains, and the principal cities within a distance of 400, 600 and 800 miles, of this southern Appalachian region. The Journal itself has asked that we furnish the illustrations for this article, owing to its lack of funds. I have no funds in hand out of which I can pay the cost of making the plate for this map. It has just occurred to me that possib'.y the Park Association, of which you are the Secretary, might be able to bear this expense. I do not know just how much the plate will cost but probably not exceeding §10 or $15. I will write you again about the matter as soon as I find out the exact cost. Yours truly, State Geologist.
