  • shows us first the Jump-off, then left to right, we have LeConte in the distance, Brushy and Round Top; then looking down the valley to Greenbrier and the Pinnacle, then Guyot and Mt. Chapman and much of the State line we have been following. On the N. C. side we have unfamiliar ranges rising one after the other. Then hiking about 2 miles, we come to the Jump-off, and from a higher stand we can again see the State line nearly all the way from the Jump-off to Guyot. If the weather permits, and we have the time we can follow the Boulevard to LeConte instead of going on down to Newfound Gap, and can spend Saturday night on LeConte and go down in time to reach home Sunday night. Or if conditions make the longer trip prohibitive, we can go from Jump-off to Newfound Gap and meet the cars there. The camp sites and daily stretches of hiking are subject to change after we enter upon the trip. Rain and fog may make it desirable to spend an extra day at one of the camping places. As some of the daily hikes are short we can lose a day in this way and still reach our destination by the appointed time. On this hike we will have to carry food for 22 meals, canteen, candle lantern, raincoat, also coat for cool weather and small tents, for we will camp out nearly every night. The hiking distance will be between 35 and 40 miles. A meeting will be called sometime before the hike so those expecting to go may decide upon questions of equipment, who shall carry tents, what food to take, etc. This trip is an experiment for our Club. The region is extremely difficult to hike even with a small party. These difficulties will be tremendously increased by the larger number who will participate in it as a Club hike. Hence our plans must be very carefully laid out and the preliminary meetings are vastly important. Leave Dixie System Sunday morning at 7 A. M. going with the party on the short hike to White Rock.
