PARK ADVERTISING FUND. Subscriptions Solicited by the Park and Forestry Committee. The park and forestry committee of the Board of Trade has opened a subscription list that^s headed as follows: 'We the undersigned hereby subscribe the sums opposite our names for the advertising and promotion of a Southern National park, the said sum to be used in any way desired by the park and forestry committee of the Board of Trade for said purpose." The committee has made arrangements with Southern Pictures and Pencillings whereby it is to increase its size to 32 pages and devote the first half of the issue to the promotion of the park project. The Appalachian National Park Association was formed in 1899 for the purpose of promoting the idea of a national park in the eastern U.S. In this 14-page communication written within weeks of its organization, the association adopted the magazine, “Southern Pictures and Pencillings,” as the official organ of the association. The publication was produced by A. H. McQuilkin, a Chicago-based editor who moved to Asheville, North Carolina in the mid-1890s and became involved with the association.
