OL TAYLOR, DIRECTOR OF PLAYS AND THE “CARNIVAL OF HISTORY AND ART.” Asheville, N.C. November 12, 1895 Mr W.W. Stringfield Waynesville, N.C. My dear sir - yesterday two copies of the “Waynesville Courier” fell into my hands containing the first and second installments of your Historical sketch. It interested me very much as it concerned that portion of town where I was born. The town of my birth is Blountville my residence now being Bristol. I have been particularly interested in the “Legion” an account of one of its members who died in Bristol the beginning of this year and was buried by some of the old Confederate soldiers. His name was James Keeling who earned no little renown by his heroic act in holding the bridge at Strawberry Plains against an attack of forty Federal soldiers. I don’t think the valorous deeds of Horatis of old surpass this act of individual bravery. There was something about
