The days are gone The days are gone As the last bus pulled away, I gazed out the window. As I take one last look at the school I realize that the year is over. Gone are the dances, the lunches, the activities. Gone are the tests we hoped to pass And the ones we didn't. Gone is the laughter that we shared and the sovows we surpassed. Gone is the happiness of meeting new friends, And gone are the sovows of losing the old ones, but our memories will stay forever. Teresa Blackwell

This 1980, 32-page book of poems titled Neo-Blackness was published by the Organization of Ebony Students. Named in 1973, the Organization of Ebony Students was originally the Black Students United for Liberation which was founded in 1968 to promote unity among African American students. The organization is now called the Black Student Union and continues to promote the interests of WCU’s African American student body through cultural and educational activities and is open to all cultures.
