This would not antagonize anybody, because there wouid not be any sectionalism connected with it. I protest against the naming of everything after some particular person or locality, when we have f these beautiful Indian name3 to guide us. Let us not d*$place them in favor of others, less pleasant to the ear, and compiiementary to somebody, but let us take that beautiful Indian name of "Appalachian . ■ i Appiau se ) . Mr Daniels: I woui-d ii<e to know something of the geography of these mountains. Some oIAwant to know what is the Appalachian Wange. I thought the Appalachians began in Maryland and came south, while the Alleghanies went up to ^ew England. I would, like to hear from 6«r&0 tomt/t ho se people have studied geography lately. Dr Lawrence: I will ask Prof. Eggleston to te~l us about it. i^rof. 'Eggieston: The geographies now speak of the Appalachians as running clear from New England down to the xx&cJck farthest limit 3 of the mountains south. I think that makes an insuperaole objection to Dr Lawrence's contention for this name. The Appalachians include the whole mountain range, and if we come into competition with New England or other Plates lying in the range, we well get le ft.
