  • TOM RAHNER DeSoto and Will Thomas This is Rahner's second season with Unto These Hills. He comes from the University of Florida where for the past four years he has been a key member of the Florida Players. He operated his own marionette show for five years and has appeared with little theatre groups. His work with the Florida Players has included acting in such productions as Pride and Prejudice, But Not Goodbye, Strange Bedfellows, Seventh Heaven, My Three Angels, Finians Rainbow, The Beautiful People, Thieves' Carnival and The Big Knife. He is a native of St. Augustine, Fla. SAM OWL Cherokee Chief Another Cherokee Indian taking a leading role in Unto These Hills is Sam Owle, born and reared on the Qualla Reservation. This is his seventh season with company. Sam attended Carlisle Indian School, Carlisle, Penn. A veteran of World War I, he was in the 58th Heavy Field Artillery. He is a direct descendant of the Cherokee who hid out in the Carolina Highlands and refused to be removed West. His grandfather was Salali, the Squirrel, the blacksmith of his nation and the first Indian ever to manufacture an entire gun. JAMES PALMER Sequoyah A North Carolinian from Greensboro, Palmer is making his debut with Unto These Hills as Sequoyah. He has been active in dramatics at Guilford College where he graduated this spring and with the United States Army Special Services at Camp Gordon. At Woman's College of University of North Carolina he appeared in Kind Lady, Outward Bound, The Great Magician and Dream Girl. This fall, Palmer will enter the graduate school of University of North Carolina to work on his master's degree in English. DONALD DEAGON Rev. Schermerhorn This is Deagon's fifth season with Unto These Hills and his second in the role of the Rev. Sehermerhorn. A native of Buffalo, N. Y., Deagon attended Birmingham-Southern College and did his graduate work at the University of North Carolina where he was technical assistant with the Carolina Playmakers. His theatre experience includes acting and technical work at Birmingham-Southern College Theatre, Town and Town Civic Theatre, Starlight Summer Theatre, and Theatre-In The-Bound, all in Birmingham, Ala. He is assistant professor of English and Dramatics at Guilford College, North Carolina.
