  • •*% 2$» FOSTER FITZ-SIMONS Major Davis One of the veterans of the Unto These Hills company, Fitz-Simons handles one of the major acting roles in the drama in addition to his duties as associate director and choreographer. His portrayal of Major Davis has made this role one of the most memorable of the play. Recognized as as a talented actor, as well as a director, many will remember him from other years for his brilliant interpretation of Uppowoc, the medicine man, in The Lost Colony at Manteo, N. C. This is his seventh season with the Cherokee drama. He was on hand for the opening season in 1950, then spent a year in New Mexico studying Indian tribal and ceremonial dances, and returned here in 1952 as choreographer. He is a member of the Department of Dramatic Art at the University of North Carolina. RUSTI ROTHROCK Wilani This is Mrs. Rothrock's second season with Unto These Hills. A native of Anniston, Alabama, she attended the University of Arkansas where she was prominent in university productions and won the Community Theatre Award. She played the leading role in Candida at Alabama College, was Alma in Summer and Smoke at Le Petit Theatre de Vieux Carre in New Orleans, Karen in The Children's Hour at Gallery Circle Theatre in New Orleans, in The Glass Harp of the Tulsa (Okla.) Little Theatre, and appeared in Bell, Book and Candle at the University of Arkansas. She is the wife of a graduate student at the University of North Carolina. RICHARD CROWE Tecumseh A full-blooded Cherokee and descendant of a famous Cherokee chief, Richard is a veteran of six years with Unto These Hills and for the fifth season is playing one of the major roles in the drama. He also is understudy for the role of Elias Boudinot. He is a graduate of Cherokee High School where he studied dramatics under Robert Tedder and Jesse Jacobs, and served with the U. S. Army Air Force during World War II. He was an Indian leader in the Walt Disney TV series and movie— Davy Crockett. He comes from a famous Cherokee family dating back to Chief Junaluska. MARION FITZ-SIMONS Mrs. Perkins Long recognized in the theatre as a fine character actress, Mrs. Fitz- Simons plays the robust, lovable Mrs, Perkins. A graduate of the University of North Carolina, she was with the Carolina Playmakers from 1930 to 1933 and has continued in Playmakers productions. She appeared in The Lost Colony at Manteo and in productions by the Asheville Summer Theatre and the Nantucket Little Theatre. She was instructor in drama at Hood College at Frederick, Md., and at Woman's College of the University of North Carolina. She is assistant cos- tumer for Unto Thete Hills. Mrs. Fitz- Simons makes her home in Chapel Hill.
