  • Becember third, 11800 Miss Kiizabeth 0. Abbot, cor. sec. Botanical society Pa,, University of Pa«, Philadelphia. My dear Miss Abbot:- Your favor of the 26 th ult, is found on my desk upon ray return from a ten days trip in Southern Georgia. I tn pleased to report that the movement for the establishment of the Appalachian national Park is now in the best possible, shape. The investigation '.tfuich was ordered at the last Session of Congress has been going on all this summer. As you Know, this investigation was laft in the hands of the Secretary of Agriculture and under him our Government Forester, Prof. Gifford pinchot, has had charge of the work in the field. To my certain knowledge, the investigation hat included the fhtlt section of Western North Carolina, the Eastern or mountainous sec- tain of Tennessee and the Northern section of Georgia, and we. have every reason to be.lie.ve that the report of this commission, which only last wefck finished their labors, will be favorable. This opinion, however, is only my personal opinion as you will understand that the report of this commit -sion will not be made public until they have first presented the Bast to Congress. u
