  • February fourth, 1901. Prof. J. A. Holmes: - "Richmond, Va. My d e a r P ro f. HoIra e•:- Your several letters have been received.. At a general session of the Appalachian National Park Association held here in Asheville to-day the Secr4tary was instructed to write to Senator Prit chard, Representative Pearson, Prof. J, A, Holme:: and Mr, Richards of Washington that it was the sense of this meeting that cur Senator! and Representatives should consider the introduction of the Park bill as an ^amendment to the Agricultural bill and it was to he hoped that our Senators and Representatives would push the natter with all energy at the present session of Congress, Regarding the money «*hich you have secured 4n the Eastern part of the State, there certainly cam he no objection on the part of any one toward your using it as you saw fit, I have this a,ay received your telegram from Richmond stating send or have Kaj . Rollins .carry copies resolutions about Park to "'Washington. Ask Mr. Rowland write Senator -fetraore. T're supposed this telegram to mean the State resolutions and I have accordingly sent them to Senator Pr itchard and have this day sent word to Mr. How- land regarding what you have stated about writing to Senator ^etrnore. At the meeting held this morning, yr, po /ell was reelected President for the ensuing year and I had the honor to he again elected as Secretary-Treasurer, I have heard nothing from Georgia, Tennessee or Virginia Legislatures exeepting the letter received from Govenor Tyler. Have you heard anything of the measures before these bodies'? It was also moved this morning that Prof. J. A, Holmes be requested to appear before the House and Senate Committee in Washington as representative of the Association and present arguments favoring our movement. Very truly yours, Seo-TreaS.,.
