My Dear Doctor: Yours of 23rd instant received. I think there is no doubt about the amendment to the Agricultural Bill referred to in my letter to you ©f April 26th, going through. I have recently spent considerable time with the Secretary of Agriculture Hon. James Wilson, and he is assured by the Chairmans of the Committee in both Houses that the amendment will be agreed upon. He assures that the amount appropriated will be judiciously expended in investigating the forest resources of Western North Carolina, and a careful report made. He is very much interested in the subject and it is important that our association make it a point to see that the experts placed in charge of the work be shown all of the points we desire them to examine• As soon as the Bill is passed, I will have another conference with the Secretary and write you again on the subject.
