  • Lee County Va June 7th, 1863 Mr. Charles Buchanan Dear sir I seat myself to write you a few lines which will inform you I am well at this time Earnestly hoping these few lines will reach your hand & find you & family all in good health & getting along in like manner I received you letter by [W] Dietz I can say to you that I found the boys all in common helth except as few as 1 million is still at greenvill & he don’t get any beter [thornton] Gabe is vary low Silas Green is [far] better I can say to you that this is a vary disagreeable place the weather is vary chaingable here it rains every few days & the wind blows all the time up on this by mountain wee air campt one mile east of the gaps on the va road[we here that our men has whipt the enemy at vixburg our loss 15000 the enemy
