  • Jacksonville N.Y. Dec. 8, 1944 Dear Leonard Your letter was especially welcome this time, not only because the D.C. family new was so good, in spots, but because it gave a bit of Chicago news. I have not heard from there since soon after they arrived; have written several times, directed to the office, as I have not their house address. * My cook stove gave out the day of the first blizzard, so I moved up here, as the prospect of a cold food diet this time of year does not appeal to me The good news of the Christmas family reunion is almost too good to be true. The prospect that the boys may be sent to the front is the bad news. However, the reports this morning about Japan show that the Lord has joined the allies, so that war may sooner than expected. There is some talk that the Navy will leave Cornell. That would take David away, but perhaps he won’t be sent to the front at once. It a report that the boys under 19 will soon be in active service, so one can’t predict. * The cook is still hale & hearty.
