  • Mar. 13th 1938 Dear Leonard Unless their plans went askew, Mrs. Fernow was to be brought home yesterday noon. I came home last Mon. the 7th. If you had listened closely you could surely have heard my song of Praise Be. Three weeks at The Lurch was about all I could stand. Guess Lucy would have needed hospitalization herself, if she had kept up the pace much longer. Three nurses were not enough. She — Mrs. F. — wanted to see Lucy on duty every time she opened her eyes. She was 86 on Mar. 9 & according to her own report has always done & had what she wanted. She wanted Lucy. Sic. I do hope you & Buddy can get here. It is plenty warm now for me to work upstairs, so you can stay here, if you don’t mind roughing it a bit. Either The Lurch or 111 would welcome you with open arms — but not of course as open as mine. By the way, you better not dare come unless you write to Leonard F. first. Did I write about my Australian Christmas — birthday present? Phil & Tommy sent me 5 pounds. Wasn’t that lovely of them?
