2 her job. The promised increase in salary at the Neurological Institute did not come, & she could barely live on what she received. Best of all she now has a Civil Service job & is in charge of the work. It is a T.B. place — mostly children. She has been at the head of the C.S (state) list for a long time, but the woman in charge managed to wangle her “frets” over M’s head. The nearest town — Ronkonkoma — 5 miles north. About 7 miles north is Port Jefferson on the northern branch of the L.I. R.R.; about 7

Description

In this letter of January 7, 1937, Laura Kephart writes to her son Leonard Kephart to wish him a happy birthday. She lets him know that she has gone to his sister Lucy’s house. She shares the news that Mrs. Brashear has died suddenly and all the bad luck that Mrs. Brashear’s son Jack and his wife have had in the past month. She tells him about her Christmas and that his letter to her made her proud. She informs him that his sister Margaret has taken a new job and is now working for the state at a T. B. clinic. She gives him Margaret’s new location and phone number.
