brains, as can be found. Just now they seem forced on us. I knew, within 15 minutes after I landed in Bangor, that my future was planned for me. I dared to go contrary to that plan + make some of my own, for which I paid. It was too bad that Leo + Cornelia could not be in N.Y. to see Leonard off, + meet your father. Strange to say, I wanted to see him. Also my idea is that what happened before their marriage is none of Paulines business. If G sent me more money that he could afford, it was wrong + I did not know it + am sorry. He was in the woods most of the time, + had no board

In this letter of October 20, 1933, Laura Kephart writes “Dear children” from Bangor, Maine, where she is staying with her son George and his wife Pauline. She is not happy with how the family is behaving, or her financial situation, and she shares her dissatisfaction toward Pauline. She asks that the letter be sent around. She also asks if anyone has Horace Kephart’s will and that they could use the $365.
