  • s THE GREAT SMOKIES Townsend is a lumber camp rather than a resort town. However, two very attractive trips to be made from Town- send are to Briar Knob by way of Camp Margaret Townsend, a Girl Scout camp, and to Thunderhead. Line Springs Hotel about midway from Townsend to Elkmont is not on the Loop but can be reached by a side road. It is located at the foot of Round Top, and is noted for its good food and water. Cottages, guides, and horses are available here. Elkmont is the location of Camp LeConte for boys and Camp Helpful for Boys Scouts. It is also the home of the Appalachian Club. The Wonderland Park Hotel offers tourists accommodations. There is tennis, swimming, and dancing HIGHWAY FROM KNOXVILLE INTO CADE S COVE, AN AREA COMPLETELY SURROUNDED BY MOUNTAINS all summer. Guides and horses are available for trips to Blanket Mountain, Siler's Bald, Sugarland Mountains, Cling- man's Dome, Indian Gap, and the Chimney Tops. Gatlinburg has two hotels, Mountain View Hotel and the Riverside Hotel. Cottages may be rented here. Swimming, hiking, and horseback riding are the chief sports. Guides and horses may be secured for trips to Indian Gap, the Cherokee Orchard, Mount LeConte, Chimney Tops, Rainbow Falls, Sugarland Mountains, Mt. Guyot, and the Pinnacle The foregoing gives some idea of the possibilities which are offered to tourists and vacationists in the Great Smokies. There is no demand which the summer traveler can make, that this Southeastern Wonderland cannot meet. Sports, rest, modern accommodations, scenery, camping, mineral waters, all can be found in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park area. I
