  • BEREA'S ANNUAL REPORT This Report for the last school year, published in part in the October Quarterly showed: 1. Extension Services—lectures on Sanitation, Agriculture, Education, Religion,—traveling libraries, etc.,—touching five states. 2. 1429 students from the mountain ends of Kentucky, the Virginias, the Carolinas, and Tennessee.* 3. Five departments: College, Normal, Academy, Vocational (Industrial) and a "Foundation School" for those who had missed early opportunities, besides a Hospital and School of Nursing. 4. Forest Reserve, Printing Office, Weaving Studio, and other industrial adjuncts, Library, Laboratories, Experiment Farm, and Boarding Hall were not reported upon, and we still defer them to make room for our articles by Kephart and Mrs. Holderman. The past year was saddened by the death of Dr. Pearsons of Chicago, Geo. Burnham of Philadelphia, and others of our best supporters. We cut down our budget somewhat and got through the year with a slight reduction of the debt. We secured gifts for one new dormitory for girls, and a few other new equipments. // we are to meet the situation as shown by Kephart and Mrs. Holderman we must enlarge the budget, extend the Extension, and secure more shelter—dormitories and other buildings,—without delay. See page 30, and inside of front cover. •Besides these there were some 400 children in the "Model Schools" connected with the Normal Department.
