  • WESTERN CAROLINA UNIVERSITY cullowhee. north Carolina 28/23 293- ?3&? March 2, 1973 295- 7^oC Mr. Glenn Cardwell Park Technician Great Smoky Mountains National Park £W # 7 Sugarlands Visitor Center Gatliriburg, Tennessee Dear Glenn: Please excuse the delay in writing to you, but I have been very busy in sorting the 292 Kephart items. I have now completed that job- and have tried to deacidify them. However, we have every indication to believe that the ink will run on some of them if we use our process of immersion. Therefore, I would stiggest that they eventually be taken to a place like the State Archives of Georgia, South Carolina, or North Carolina and placed in a steam laminator. Their condition is very good- and they do not have to be treated in this way right away. However, I believe that for posterity's sake it should be done. Enclosed please find the zerox copy of my list as promised earlier this week. I deeply appreciate the kindness that you and Mrs MoCrary and your assistants have shown to me- and will do my best to reciprocate in kind. I am currently • working on a calendar of the papers and will send this to you when completed. I would suggest that you keep it in a Liose-leaf notebook. Each collection should, after the inventories and other finding aids are completed, be treated in this manner. 1 will, of course, keep in touch. Rest assured that I will do my best to be prompt and dependable- characteristics which are certainly not alien to people like you and Mr. McCrary. Best regards. Sincerely, Richard If.
