It might be news for the Bark he is ruminating upon, but, judging from the far-away look in his eyes, we are inclined to think it is his girl. 2. H. P. Franklin, Green Lumb2r Foreman, an Old-Timer of 18 years, accompanied by his aider and abettor, "Jack Johnson," another Old-Timer with 12 years of service. Neither of them are very big, but when it comes to getting out the work they are right there. 3. Charlie Neal, our Planing Mill Machinist, putting the finishing touches on a moulding blank. we hope that he will soon be with us again. Born to Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Wisenant on June 20th, a 11% lb. baby boy who has been named James Harold. Born to Mr. and Mrs. Mack Cooper on June 16th, an 8-lb. baby girl, who has been named Mary Ethel. ■ Mr. Paul V. L. Henderson has returned to the ranks of the "Volunteer Sons of Rest," after a very delightful freight-train tour of West Virginia, in the neighborhood of Charleston. He planned another trip in the near future, but has about given up the idea, as he says his old friend and side-kick, George Vent can't catch freight-trains as well as he could a few years ago. Miss Bertha Sutphin from Charleston, is spending a few weeks with her sister, Mrs. W. O. Hoover. Our Superintendent, Mr. A. W. Peterson, has been very much interested in the sermons given by Billy Sunday, who has been in Beckley for the last two weeks. It is easy to note that he has gained considerable spiritual uplift (?) from these sermons, which he at- Eighteen tends every night and he has been heard to say that if business did not make it impossible, he would attend the afternoon sessions. We are informed, however, that he was not there Friday night but went to the Fitzpatrick Theater to see Round Six of "The Leather Punchers." We sought information as to whether or not he was "fed up" on Billy, but when questioned on this point, learned that he intended to hear Mr. Sunday at least once more, when Mr. Sunday expects to speak to men only on Sunday evening. We are also sorry to learn that our Chief Inspector, Mr. A. G. Fernald, did not Dodge his way over "to Beckley Friday night, but also went to the movies. Reports have been circulated that Mr. Peterson intends to become a theological student and anyone having religious works and pamphlets not in use, are asked to kindly donate such matter for an exceedingly worthy cause. It is with regret that we have noticed, particularly recently, the "malady" which has struck our esteemed field renorter, Mr. Albertus Y. Le Bleu. While he himself is unapproachable as to the cause of said "malady," it is, we believe, common knowledge that he has been struck with SEVERAL of Cupid's arrows. Recently this love-struck person made a hasty trip to Dry Branch and upon his return gave the impression of being greatly elated over something. It now develops that the young lady in question, who causes the great palpitation of Le Bleu's heart at the mention of her name, is to be in our midst July 4th, at which time the writer sincerely hopes to find enough favor in the sight of Le Bleu to be introduced to this bit of fair femininity... It is further reported that he has persuaded her to leave her present employment in Dry Branch. We all trust this is true and that she will condescend to stay with us from now on, as it is apparently a difficult task for Le Bleu to "carry on" much longer alone in this world of struggle and strife. Our peace and blessings are with them both! It is needless to say that by the time the "Bark" is received again that Le Bleu will have reached the highest pinnacle of happiness. BEAVER Ward's daily moan—"Dearest, what in the world is wrong, no mail again today."
