  • JANUARY 28 WHITE OAK SINKS White Oak Sinks is a section of the Park which we, as a Club, have not yet explored, but which we believe is well worth a trip. It is a secluded area of three or four hundred acres wholly surrounded by mountains. There are a number of necks, and coves, and caves which the more hardy ones of us will want to investigate. To get there, drive to the church on road to Cades Cove, where a right turn is made. Proceed a half mile on the Cades Cove road to Drive Alley where we turn left. Drive to the top of the mountain along a road which C. C. C. crews have been improving. When we reach the top, where we park the cars, we can look down on their camp. From here it is a half mile to the Sinks—any one of the several roads down may be followed. Leave Dixie System at 7 A. M. Take canteen and food for one meal. Round trip driving distance 74 miles. Round trip hiking distance 2 miles. Leaders: GLENN STUBLEY (3-4567) CHARLOTTE FLOYD (3-1877) Afoot and light-hearted I take to the open road, Healthy, free, the world before me, The long brown path before me, Leading me wherever I choose. 14
