  • program this year than in the past. Then there is the one-week VACATION CAMP, considered by many to be the bright spot, high light, feature, or what-have-you of the entire schedule. As for the more hardy who like their hiking "in the raw," this year's program takes care of them also very handily. In fact, the 1934 program was arranged with the thought in mind of fulfilling the needs and desires of every individual member. To those who have been with us only a short time we would say a few words. We want you to feel welcome and at home with us on the trail or in any of the other activities that we sponsor. What you get out of this organization, as in any other, will depend largely upon your own interests and activity. There are a variety of diversions offered in the schedule. In addition to Sunday hikes, we offer overnight trips; a mountain literature meeting; two banquets, each followed by a square dance; swimming parties; a mystery hike; a fish fry; a week's vacation camp; and a series of educational discussions on the Great Smokies and related subjects. Now, in order to get most out of your membership in the Club, you must do your share. When you attend a meeting or make a hike, let people know you are there; introduce yourself to those with whom you are not acquainted; take an interest in the Club activities; invite your friends to come along with you; and when asked to act as leader or serve on a committee, do so; for it is likely that to some of you new members will fall the job of guiding the destiny of the Club in the future. Although the steady growth and high ideals of the Club can be largely credited to a comparatively small group who have given of their time and energy unstintingly, new blood is needed. Some of you will furnish it. By your accepting and serving efficiently, even in a minor role at first, shall we know where to place the responsibility of future administration. 8
