  • CONSTITUTION AND BY-LAWS OF THE SMOKY MOUNTAINS HIKING CLUB (Unofficial and abbreviated for publication) ARTICLE I Name. The name of this organization shall be the SMOKY MOUNTAINS HIKING CLUB. ARTICLE II Objects. To develop opportunities for the enjoyment of the out-of-doors in the form of hikes and outings ; to provide related social and educational opportunities; to encourage and teach out-of-door ethics ; to encourage the conservation of wood-?, waters and wild life in general ; and to acquaint our members and the public generally with the beauty and grandeur of the Great. Smokies and other mountains in this section. ARTICLE III Membership. Any person of good character who subscribes to the objects of the Club shall be eligible for member-ship in the SMOKY MOUNTAINS HIKING CLUB. provided he is at least sixteen years of age and is approved by the membership committee. ARTICLE IV Officers. The officers of the club shall be President, Vice-President, Secretary, Membership Secretary, Treasurer, Editor and Historian. (A statement of their duties is here omitted). ARTICLE V Board of Directors. The business, interests and transactions of the Club shall be managed and controlled by a Board of Directors. It shall consist of twelve persons, seven of whom shall be the regularly elected officers of the Club and five of whom shall be elected at each annual meeting of the Club by the members present. If the office of any director becomes vacant the remaining directors ^ay, by a majority vote, elect a successor who shall hold office for the unexpired term. 73
