  • Rocks and again from the A. T. just before coming to Laurel Top. Laurel Top and Woolly Tops afford a different type of outlook. Most of the way there is no trail at all and it will be some scrap with Laurel "slicks"; but victory will be the more appreciated when gained that way; and think what you can tell 'em when you get back home! Leaders: BROCKWAY CROUCH (3-3236) WARNER HALL (Decatur, Ga.) AUGUST 20 COVE MOUNTAIN, MT. HARRISON, "UNCLE TOM'S CABIN" Here is a hike planned to suit every taste. If you want a ten mile hike, a six or an eight mile hike, you can take it with the Hiking Club August 20th. Whether you take the shorter or longer hike you will get at least one magnificent view, more, of course, if you take the longer hike. Here is the plan. We should get an early start driving to Fighting Creek Gap on the Gat- linburg-Elkmont Highway. The trail starts at the Gap, elevation 2,500 feet. Letting down the bars and starting up the Manon Lead, we find ourselves on one of the Park Service fire trails. It is fully two miles up the Manon Lead to the main ridge of Cove Mountain. From each of the four small "peaks" on the Lead we get fine views of a number of Smoky's peaks. Along the way grow many interesting wild flowers and ferns. Reaching the main ridge of Cove Mountain a choice of hikes awaits the hiker. Those who are going to take either the six or the ten mile hike turn left and go out to "highpoint". (C. S. Dunn, chief ranger for the Tennessee side of the National Park says "high point" is a higher peak 48
