  • THE WESTERN CAROLINIAN Thursday, January n, jggg CAROLINIAN OUTLOOK By David Watson Ctmpus Politics 1968 is off to a flying start with rumors spreading about Governor Dan Moore being the next president of WCU, stu dents are breaking their New Year's resolutions, and aspirant politions are gathering support for the Spring elections. Most students don't worry much about who will be the next president of the university. Resolutions never really bother anybody- because most people don't even remember them the next day. The last point however is a more hard hitting fact to some students. With the return of wary political leader from the past (which by many is not well liked) things in Joyner Building have begun to pifck up. (Some look upon it asthedeadrevisitingthe living or once you're graduated don't come back and bother the students, cause it isn't your business anymore.) His return has haunted many.yet his last year% underlings'are thankful and ask his advice before every move. He has returned like the shep hard to guide his flock through another election. Oneofhisfold may have gone astray, yet he does not attempt to bring him back, maybe he doesn't even know he is gone. Mill t\ Main Street* His advice is taken by many whom he helped elect But a few forget from whence their help cometh. These should heed his words from before last year's elections. They should remember prior promises and try to keep them. Above all they should practice what they preach, before some drastic steps are taken and they lose more friends and influence enemies, To get down to the real nitty gritty, the rumors in the air about Spring, may not all be true but many are not false. A word to the innocent Freshmen and over eager politicians: beware the drinking buddies' chats, when moring comes revolt may be in the air. Don't gel too involved else you be left on the wayside in the future, by backing a losing candidate. Be careful of who you throw your support behind, you may net burn playing with fire To an aspiring politician: A little politics is a dangerous thing Don't run to Big Daddy "P." everytime the wind blows from the North West . Stand on your own two feet don't use an old crutch. Politics on this campus can be a dangerous game. Those not use to it can be hurt very bad. Anyone entering the game may not be able to tell one player from another (and there are no programs for this sport) and new players may have the misfortune of choosing the wrong team because of first impressions or false records of merit Many campus politicians have the big head and impress support by their use of name dropping and big words that sound important. Some young politicians aren't as bad as those now trying to influence decisions. There have been many changes of direction since last Spring, a few have bitten the hand that fed them. The Spring may be very interesting since politicians have been known to sling a little mud and stab a few people in the back. Bock Our Cagers COGDILL MOTOR CO.
