  • Under this mountain and under three mountains nearby the bears have their townhouses where they meet to dance and talk before going to sleep in their dens for the winter. The Cherokees believed that bears are really human and could talk if they wanted to. Their tradition has it that tit one time a hunter heard a mother bear singing to her baby. She held the cub in her paws and sang this song to it: When you hear the hunters come down the creek, Upstream, upstream, you must go. Upstream, upstream, you must go. But if you hear them come up the creek, Downstream, downstream, you must go. Downstream, downstream, you must go. tern Band of Cherokee Indians. 118 ^
