The Qreat Smoky Mountains HIS booklet has been compiled for the purpose of presenting to the -*- people of America the beauty of the Great Smoky Mountains of Western North Carolina. In preparing the booklet it has been realized that mere type and photographs can never convey the splendors of nature which are treasured in these rugged and inviolate mountains. But we have hoped that it would suggest to the reader what may be expected of a visit to this extraordinary mountain range which the people of North Carolina have pledged themselves to conserve for all time, for the enjoyment of present and future generations, and maintain in its present virgin state that it may stand as a monument of nature when every other forest in Eastern America has been despoiled by the axe. The people of North Carolina, jointly with Tennessee, are raising funds to purchase this tract and present it to the Federal Government to be maintained as a National Park. The Government of the United States has placed its approval upon the project and high officials are assisting in the forwarding of this enterprise. It will be some time before the park is established but nature lovers may visit these marvelous mountains and forests and view the scenic and scientific treasures they contain. We invite you to read this booklet and then visit the Great Smoky Mountains of North Carolina, and feel sure that no matter how wide your travels this shall be an event that will stand out among your experiences and memories. The “Great Smoky Mountains National Park” brochure was created to showcase “the beauty of the Great Smoky Mountains of Western North Carolina.” Within its 24-pages, the commission provided an update on the status of the future park and promoted its development as “a great playground that will have no equal in the world.” The brochure quotes Horace Kephart and Robert Sterling Yard, Secretary of the National Parks Association, and includes photographs by Jim Thompson. Clearly thinking nationally, the commission included a map at the back of the brochure with mileage to the site listed from cities throughout the East Coast.
