  • THE CULLOWHEE YODEL Campus News The student body elected officers for the new quarter Monday night, Dec. 5. The following were elected: Florine Smith, President; Estelle Powell, Vice-president; Anne Young, Secretary; Sallie Trull and Marion Henderson, council members. Miss Gladstone, librarian of Cullowhee Normal, had for week end guests Miss Isabella Watson, Ex- professor of French at Carleton College, and her sister Miss Minnie Watson. The Misses Watson are from Minnesota and are spending the winter in North Carolina and other Southern states. It is a pleasure to have their names in our visitor's book, at the library. Misses Nina Hunter and Ethel Gibson visited Mr. and Mrs. Hunter Sunday afternoon. They reported a nice Misses Feagans and Franklin report a larger number of pupils are enrolled for voice and piano this quarter. Misses Edna Green and Ethel Us- sery spent the week end with Lorene York, in Asheville. The Clyde High school boys defeated the Cullowhee High team in basket ball Monday night by a score of 18-15. Members of the B. Y. P. U. enjoyed a "tacky" party Monday night. Misses Feagans, Ray, Casey, Graves, Benton, and Bancroft spent Monday in Asheville. Prof. Madison and his son, Monroe, recently entertained the students at chapel with Hawaiian music. Misses Daisy and Nell Franklin gave a two-piano recital last Tuesday night. This was the first recital of the year. Miss Franklin plans to give another soon. Misses Mary Dell Bynum, Marion Langley, and Carrie Allen, spent the Monday in Asheville. Miss Ethel Howell spent last week end in Whittier with friends. Field Notes Mr. J. S. Myers, of Brasstown, N. C, is principal of Blackwells, Georgia, schools. W7e are glad to add his name to the Yodel mailing list. Miss Lula Gilbert of Fingerville, S. C, is now teaching at Cherokee of that state. Miss Sadie Horton of Democrat, N. C, is teaching in West Asheville school. Her address is 1 Covington Street, West Asheville, N. C. We hear that Miss Unice Curry is doing splendid work as a teacher of the seventh grade in Wingate schools, N. C. Mr. Harold S. Clark of Asheville, one of our former students, is now practising surgery in his home city. Miss Maude Hopkins of this place is teaching the fifth grade in Kan- napolis, N. C. We wish her much success. Miss Nannie Prichard, who was a student here in 1925, is spending the winter at her home in Elizabeth City, N. C, R. F. D. No. 5. Miss Vivian Silverthorne of Oriental, is teaching at Nashville, N. C. We are glad to hear from her. Miss Gussie Lee Harrell of Elizabeth City is engaged in primary work in that city. She sends her best wishes to the Normal and to the Yodel. We are glad to hear that Elizabeth Deal of Franklin, N. C, is enjoying her work in the Burnsville schools. She wishes Cullowhee and the Yodel a very prosperous year. We have just received a check from Miss Epsie Gregg for a year's subscription to the Yodel. She is teaching the fifth grade at Newport, N. C. Miss Carrie Horton of Democrat, N. C, is teaching with her sister in West Asheville schools. We understand that she is having a pleasant year, and we are delighted to know that she has not forgotten Cullowhee. She desires that her name be placed on the Yodel list. 2 how Mary Belle—Can you tell to reduce? Elizabeth—Sure, sit on the edge of a chair and fall off. Mr. Allen—Don't you know anything about literature, Vivian? Vivian—No, but I've written to the tooth-paste companies for it. Ensley—(Entering Green's room). Give me some gum; I smell it. Green—You cant' smell it when you go in the store, can you? Arville—He gave me an army-and- navy kiss. Ruth—What kind is that? Arville—Rapid fire—sixty a min- Stone walls do not a prison make, nor do steel bars make a cage, but they sure help out a lot. JOKES Clem Hall: I would like book, please. Librarian: Something light? Clem: It doesn't matter, Mr. Bird will carry it home. We are delighted to note the deeply religious spirit which prevails among our students. This was especially emphasized when Miss Gladys White went across the hall, picked up a Bible and parried it to writing It is commonly believed that Miss Rachael Davis is so accustomed to knocking on doors "checking up" that she knocks on her own before going out of her room.
