  • January twenty-fifth, 1901. Rr. 1. Hough, Hartf ord Bldg,, Ch icago, 111. My dear Sir: - qr« are still pushing the Appalachian National Park move- ment, I enclose you a copy of the special message from the President to the Senate and House pertaining to our movement and also a letter from the Secretary of Agriculture to the President re-garding the same. You ./ill find that both the President and Secret.ury recommend an appropriation for the purpose of establishing a national forest reseave in the Southern Ippalachhais and upon their r-.co/nmendation our Senators -and Congressmen have introduced a bill praying for an appropriation of five million dollars into the Senate and House. I am also enclosing you other printed matter pertaining to the movement and which may he of interest to you. The success which we have rae$ up to this time, and T must say that sa.ch endorsement from the President and the Secretary of Agriculture are good endorsements, has been secured, first, by ever-last ing- ly sticking at it, and second, by organising and laying plana and then following them out to the letter. As yd- know, we organized about two years ago and the work from that time to this has been pursued along lines ahich were then agreed upon. !*re believe we are going to win.
