  • This is a measure which has every consideration in its favor. Chattanooga, Tenn., Times: This is one of the most beneficial and important movements ever proposed for the benefit of the southern people. Raleigh, N. C, Observer: Senator Pritchard has from the first taken a deep interest in the enterprise and the favorable report secured by him is a long step for public benefit. We join in sending him thanks for the great service he has rendered the State. Lynchburg, Va., Advance: The merits of this scheme should commend it to judgment of Congress and insure the speedy passage of the bill. Parkersburg, W. Va., Sentinel: That such a forest reserve should be established in the hardwood regions of the East is the opinion of men of science, experts in forestry, intelligent lumbermen and men connected with the business interests of the country. The Plant World, Washington, D. C: This, if accomplished, will be the only forest reserve in the eastern states, and we earnestly hope it may brought about. Forest and Stream: The Appalachian Forest Reserve measure must go over to another Congress. We believe, however, that this is simply a postponement, not a defeat, of the scheme. The reserve, there is abundant confidence for believing, will ultimately be established. New York, Mail and Express: The extension of our Forest policy is a matter not merely of State or sectional, but of national importance. 22
