And Champion, heretofore a "quantity" producer, was ready with the physical strength and resources to turn to the new task of producing the highest practical quality — on a quantity basis. There was much to do. The mills were large, well equipped and capable. They had to be modernized, . tuned up to a new exactness and precision. Approximately three millions of dollars have been invested during the past few years,inside the ChampionMills! Not one penny of this money has gone for extension. The Champion Mills already were large. But this great sum of approximately three million dollars was used entirely to improve equipment, train human ability, provide new methods — so that the work that had always been done might now be done better. And so, today, Champion faces the future — a future of quality production of printing papers— with a solid foundation on which to build further, and grow larger, and serve its public in an ever- increasing measure. How well, how solidly, how carefully, Champion has built this foundation of quality is shown in the following pages. I
