Golly gee, everyone, take notice of the date Today we decide the Democrats political fate No matter if youre red, or if you side with blue Ifyou dont vote, what does it matter to you? So rise and shine, bright and early! And Check your ballot ever so thoroughly You mustnt put it off, you must go now Take your car,truck,or the neighbors cow. Go stand in line and wait your turn Please all mighty vote and learn It would make me sick and make me ill If we left them up on Capitol Hill So do your duty and play your part, _ Though being educated would be a start. aC Just so you dont elect anymore maniacs Dont pick and choose for the coolest name Or the one who in two years will get all the blame Research their stance, their each and every plank Ranging from pork to matters dealing with the bank Will spending go down or taxes go up? Will the homeless still be carrying a cup? Will jobs be made and positions be filled? Will useless bills in committees be killed? SOMEONE Will houses be sold and the market increase? Will we still be able to pay our rent or lease? Will teachers get raises or small business get perks? Will there be an increase in accountants and clerks? Will students get loans that they need for school? Will foreign places still be putting up with our rule? I ask that you vote and ask that you know The issues which our country needs to grow And if all this you hear and all this you agree Then to cast your ballot you now are free You are making a choice, please be wise Discern the difference between their truths and lies So now its up to you, for voting is your decision. Go, and elect the future you envision. Dodgeball Kate Mackay /Senior Professional Writing Major So there I was in gym class, halfway through my first day and hypnotized by the ongoing dodgeball game. | hadn't made any friends yet. Instead, opted to take in my new habitat and study my fellow classmates before making any bold moves. Already 1 made some excellent decisions, though. I wore my best pair of bicycle shorts. On them, an assortment of neon license plates popped out from their white, spandex backdrop. The bottoms were fringed with black lace that fell just above my knee. Very dangerous. Blonde, crimped hair exploded out from the left side of my head, contained only by my fav electric-green scrunchie. | observed the cool girls all throughout the day, especially Melissa Mackenzie, the leader, Fate appeared to have brought us to the same elementary school, for she too wore her side ponytail on the left and adorned her lace-less Keds with nearly the same upholstery paint designs as mine. I knew we were destined to be friends, Usually, the goal of dodge ball is to stay in the game as long as possible, but I soon learned that only the nerdy or beastly girls did that. 1 watched as one by one of Melissas pack purposefully dropped the ball or allowed it to touch their shoe. They all gathered on the side lines to discuss the latest New Kids on the Block single and how sticker collecting was definitely on its way out. I, of course, followed suit. But instead of the ball tapping my toe, its rubber scraped the side ofmy knee, taking with it a piece of a half-healed scab from a recent rollerblading accident. Unshaken, I took a cross-legged seat several feet from the girls, watched and waited. After what seemed like hours, Melissa rose and motioned for the pack to follow. As they approached my direction, my heart racing, "palms sweaty, I thought, This is it! They must have noticed my scrunchie! Just as the thought crossed my mind, a stray ball launched offthe court. Melissa turned her head to me as orange rubber collided with my face. Her mouth opened wide with an eruption of laughter, and then her eyes fell down to my bloodied knee. Her face twisted into to a look of = as she screamed for all the gym to hear, une Scab picker! The new girl's a scab picker!
