August 20, 2009 WESTERN CAROLINIAN FEALURES Good to Know Rules on Campus by Catherine Butterfield Staff Writer ' When making the transition from living at home and getting settled in at Western Carolina, many questions regarding behavior, expectations, and rules come up. Here are a few things that everyone new to WCU, and even some who have been here a while, should know about being on campus. How do I keep up with what is going on at WCU? Check your campus e-mail and MyCat. It is the most vital resource you have at knowing what happens on campus. Also, the Western Carolinian and TV 62 keeps tracks of all the events on campus and provides news reports. What can I do to ensure that Iam able to remain at WCU? Academic honesty and integrity. The best way to ensure a quick exit from college is to cheat or plagiarize. The advent of the internet has made it even easier to figure out who is cheating. What about alcohol? You are allowed to drink as long as you are legally old enough to do so. Drinking games violate WCUs alcohol policy, even if you are over ps| whe And drugs? Drugs are prohibited on WCUs campus. This includes marijuana, cocaine, and taking pills that havent been prescribed. How should I behave on campus? Be courteous of others. Be on time to class and set your cell phone to silent. Do not intimidate or threaten other students. Breach of peace is highly discouraged. - Where can I smoke cigarettes? Anywhere that is not within a 50 foot radius of a campus building.
