  • Sone Like It Hols is Gary Nabhaihs S exploration of you are what you eat, or, according to him, what your ancestors ate. The book is a mix of storytelling entwined with research. It makes it an easy read, since the data and stories flow together as a whole instead | of being separated into sloppy chunks of material like in Freakonomics; at points it feels more like a memoir than research on genetics and food habits. Plus, Nabhans work is chock full of things youd never probably heard of before. For instance, in the chapter Searching for the Ancestral Diet, its revealed that some wild plant species can cause our genes to mutate! Its scary how much this book can tell you about yourself based on your heritage. This book might be more entertaining to folks who take an interest in biology and heredity, but even if science isnt your thing its an interesting read. , Phantom Feast By Diana Barron Phantom Feast is Diana Barron Ss valiant attempt at wrth. a seriously acaly horror novel. Its basically what Ed Wood would have written if he were still alive to write books today. Yes, its that bad. : - Barr's novel is full of cheese and clich tragic elements. The star of the novel is a morbidly obese telephone sex worker with a tragic past, served by three little people who also happen to have horribly standard tragic pasts as well. Phantom Feast has our fleshy protagonist lure people to her home where one of the midgets murder the victim, then, they feed the corpse to the ghosts of dead circus animals who live in paintings. Im not even kidding, thats the plot right there: dead circus animals going on a rampage killing and eating people. The writing is amateurish and full of unintended hilarity, which makes this book even more ridiculous. Lets grab a bit from the Prologue straight from page five: Being shredded like newspaper in a gerbils cage, his pain was blasphemous. Pinned underneath her massive powerful body, he thrashed and flailed around in his own hot sloppy soup. God...no...nooo... Mm, when | think gerbil, | certainly do think man-eating terror, lf you happen to enjoy camp, go for it! Otherwise, steer clear from this wreck.
