  • 16 CAROLINIAN SPORTS February 2, 2000 i**GefsanfHer Cats Sing Statesboro Blues *R*fical' Atftifton Monday was a great day for wrestling—if you arc a WWF fan, that is. In case you didn't know, Chris Benoit, Dean Malenko. Perry Saturn, and Eddy Guerrero walked out of WCW a couple of weeks ago. I was hoping thai WWF would make the right move and pick up at least one of these superstars and WWF did three better. The World Wrestling Federation brought out all four of these ex-WCW last Monday in full force. What began as a simple front row seating soon became a total beating of The New Age Outlaws, The Mean Street Posse, and finally, HHH himself. Looks like WWF has a solid team to combat DX. However, I believe that the WCW-Four need a new name other than "The Radicals." For those of you that watched Half-time Heat during the Super Bowl, you witnessed Stone Cold Steve Austin's return to television since his surgery. Austin is recovering fine and there is a good chance that he will be back in the ring in about six months. Right now, he's more concerned about his upcoming marriage with the original "Puppy" girl, Debra McMichael. Now back to some newly breaking news on last weekend's Royal Rumble. I swore to myself that I would never, and Servo means never, force myself to remember Mae Young and the infamous bikini contest, but this story was just too good to pass up. Evidently there was a Hollywood make-up artist backstage and he fitted Mae with prosthetic puppies. Vince McMahon got the idea for Mae's little expose by watching "There's Something About Mary". Actually, the make-up artist remarked to some people backstage that Mae's breasts were actually "remarkably firm" for an 80-year-old. Kinda makes you feel good after eating, doesn't it. Now on to WCW. Kevin Nash fractured his ankle during a house show match against Ric Flair, so he wasn't able to make it to Nitro last Monday. I would think that this would be a good thing, but in typical WCW fashion, they took a great opportunity and flushed it down the toilet. Even the Kidman match was done poorly. And for crying out loud, please get Terry Funk out of the ring. I know he's a legend, but he is just getting pitiful. I'm afraid he's going to get hurt. If WCW wants to kill a 56-year-old man for some ratings, no wonder their roster just keeps getting shorter and shorter. I'm sorry, but even Ric Flair can't save WCW right now. Servo says: "I bet it's weird to be in an arena where the seats are full, right?" Cactus Jack just had to make this comment to The Radicals upon their grand entrance to the WWF fold. by KC Culler Staff Writer STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern Eagles took a lyric from a famous Allman Brothers song and handed ihe WCU 83 Western Carolina Catamounts their GSU 92 fourth straight loss, 92-83, Saturday night. The Cats have not only lost four straight, but six of their last seven games. It was also the second of a three-game road swing for the Cats. "We played hard, but it's the same old thing with us. We dig ourselves a hole and try to come back, but we're not able to get back," said head coach Phil Hopkins. The Catamounts (9-10, 2-7) placed three players in double-figures, as sophomore Cory Largent came off the bench to lead the Cats with 23 points on nine of 13 shooting. Another sophomore, guard Casey Rogers added 18 points while dishing out six assists. The Eagles answered with a barrage of made free throws and easy jumpers to take a 39- 31 lead into the break. The Cats started out the second half hot by connecting on their first four shots from the field, drawing even with GSU at 40 apiece.
