Tom Seitz, athletics director at Jacksonville University, a 2,118-student institution in Jacksonville, Fla., that competes in the Trans America Athletic Conference of the NCAA. Seitz will visit campus Thursday, Jan. 20, and Friday, Jan. 21, with a reception from 4 until 5 p.m. Jan. 21 on the concourse of the Ramsey Regional Activity Center. The 13-member search committee, working with the assistance of a national search firm, considered more than 120 candidates and narrowed the field to 20 finalists before selecting the four invited for on-campus interviews. After the interview process, the search committee is expected to recommend its top candidates, without ranking them, to Chancellor John Bardo, said Haggard. Bardo's choice will then be submitted to Western's board of trustees for approval at its March 1 meeting, with final approval required from The University of North Carolina Board of Governors. The win improved the Catamounts record to 9-6 overall, an even 2-2 in the Southern Conference. The ninth win surpasses WCU's entire win total from a year ago and gave head coach Phil Hopkins his 60th career victory. UNC Greensboro fell to 8-6 on the year, 2-2 in league play. "I thought our guys competed real well tonight," said Hopkins following the victory. "This was a good win for us. Greensboro is a strong team in our conference and we were corning off two games that I thought we shouldn't have lost (Wofford and The Citadel)." Hopkins' club was paced on the offensive end by sophomore forward Cory Largent. His 24-point effort was a career- high, surpassing his previous mark of 22 set at Arkansas in 1998. He also set career-highs in free throws, both attempted and made. Largent, who entered the game shooting just 68 percent from the line, paced a Cat team that connected on 81 -percent of hits charity tosses with a perfect 11 for 11 performance. Commenting on the number of free throws taken on the night by his team, Hopkins said, "We drove the ball a lot more tonight. We were more aggressive on the offensive end. When we can go to the foul line more, we're a better team." He added, "Cory [Largent] had to play the post more and he was able to drive past their post players." Senior forward Dondrell Whitmore knotted his sixth double-double of the year, 15 as a Catamount with hisl7-point, 10-re- bound performance. He is currently 32nd on the WCU All-time scoring sheet, eight away from Robert Hill (1986-89). Despite struggling from the floor, freshman guard Jarvis Hayes finished with 12 points and nine rebounds. Junior guard Ricky Gandy matched Hayes' performance of 12 points. Hopkins commented that Gaudy's defensive effort was crucial on Greensboro's three-point shooters. Sophomore point-guard Casey Rogers was saddled with two early fouls, but managed 31 minutes, only picking up one more foul. He was one-point shy of a double- double, finishing with nine points and 12 assists, one shy of a career-high. Rogers has 270 career-assists, 25 shy from tenth all-time at Western Carolina in just his second-year. Leon Davis added 11 points in the win in increased minutes due to the absence of freshman Jonas Hayes. The freshman forward strained his MCL in practice diving for a loose ball, reports said. "I felt that the Greensboro game last year was probably my worst effort from a coaching standpoint," said Hopkins. "I felt that this was a good team effort."
