  • WESTERN CAROLINIAN NEWS November 17,1999 WCU Nursing Graduates Post Highest Pass Rate OPI WCU's nursing graduates have posted the state's top pass rate on a professional licensure examination, according to the latest quarterly report issued by the North Carolina Board of Nursing. Totals show that 95 percent of all WCU graduates who took the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) for the first time passed the exam. The 95 percent pass rate is the highest among the state-supported programs that award the bachelor of science degree in nursing. Sandra Greniewicki, head of WCU's nursing program, said that Western's nursing students traditionally do an excellent job on the exam. "We are full of pride concerning the results," said Greniewicki. "We will continue to be looking for additional ways to enhance the program." She also said that some of those recent graduates may enroll in WCU's new master's degree program in nursing. CEMENTS WCU Interior Design Open House WCU's interior design program will hold an open house over a two-day period to give the region's high school students, and other interested individuals, a chance to visit the program's facilities and view projects created by WCU students. The open house will be held from 9 am until 3 pm on Wednesday, November 17, and Thursday, November 18, in Suite 308 of the Belk Building. For more information, contact Yops at (828) 227-7272. Campus Nutrition Now On-line WCU's campus nutritionist, Karen White, now has a web-site, which offers some new services for students. 1) FAQ about nutrition where students can send the nutritionist questions and look for their answers, and the answers to other questions. 2) The site provides links to helpful nutrition and health sites, where students have access to free diet analysis, supplement info and much more. 3) The site also includes a tip of the day, consultation, and much more. Madrigal Dinner Tickets Now On Sale Tickets for the 1999 Christmas Madrigal Dinner to be held on Friday, December 3, and Saturday, December 4, are on sale at 210 A K Hinds University Center, or by phone at (828) 227-7206 with a credit card. The price per ticket is $27 for adults, children, and non-WCU students, and $20 for WCU students. Leadership Conference Scheduled The last of three consecutive workshops, dealing with the seven values of the Social Change Model of Leadership Development, will be on November 17 from 3 pm until 5 pm in the Catamount Room of the UC. Stiwinter, the WCU student from Franklin, NC, who died from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident recently.
