Chancellor's Speaker Series Brings Jane Bryant Quinn and Danny Glover to WCU by Claire Hawley Staff Writer For the second year of the Chancellor's Speaker Series, Jane Bryant Quinn will be at WCU on October 4th. Quinn is a leading commentator on personal finance. She has columns in many publications such as Newsweek magazine and the New York Daily News, has written two books, "Making the Most of Your Money" and "A Hole in the Market." Quinn is an Emmy Award-winning broadcaster and was named by the World Almanac as one of the most 25 most influential women in the nation. In February, Danny Glover and fellow performer Felix Justice will be on campus performing works of Langston Hughes and Martin Luther King Jr. Glover is an Emmy-nominated actor and Justice is a renowned actor and director, best known for his portrayal of King. The program is meant to bring signifi cant figures into contact with WCU students, not just for the performances, but to give the students an opportunity to discuss issues and interact with them. The money for these activities is allotted from unspent funds from previous years. These funds result from lapsed salaries and benefits, and unspent operating funds. The speakers for this series are chosen from lists of speakers available through agencies that specialize in these kinds of activities. After available speakers are found from the lists, Dr. Bardo discusses the possibilities with the Faculty Senate Steering Committee. The University then negotiates with the agencies about the specifics. The price is normally not negotiable though, being already set by the agency. Jane Bryant Quinn will be paid $15,000 plus expenses and Glover and Justice will be paid $20,000 plus expenses. announcements Six Flags Tickets Discontinued SGA Senate Applications Group rate Six Flags tickets are NO LONGER AVAILABLE at the University Center.
