  • Western Carolinian March 28,1996 News Public Safety Highlights 3/20 • A student reported that money was stolen from his room in Leatherwood between 8:15 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. 3/20 • A student reported that his truck had been stolen from near Killian at 4 p.m. The truck was located in the Field House lot, ■ and the incident was discovered to have been a prank. 3/21 • A student in Reynolds reported that someone had used his telephone calling card to make unauthorized calls. 3/21 • Officers warned two male non- students who were using the golf green while it was closed and who threw a M-80 into the pond at 2:20 p.m. 3/21 • A student reported that a state- owned vehicle was being operated carelessly off campus at 2:45 a.m. 3/21 • Officers searched a room on the 8th floor of Harrill where marijuana smoke was detected at 9:50 p.m. A small amount of marijuana was confiscated. The incident was referred to Housing. 3/21 • Officers responded to a fire alarm in Hunter at 11:21 p.m. caused by cigar smoke in a break area. 3/21 • Officers apprehended a male student who stomped on a bicycle outside Albright at 2:40 a.m. damaging the rear wheel. Charges are pending identification of the owner. 3/23 • A student charged with a handicapped parking violation and display of a fictitious handicapped placard pled guilty in district Court and was fined $100. Charges against a second student for a similar offense were dismissed. 3/23 • Officers assisted WCU EMS with a student who was transported from Scott to Harris Regional and treated for alcohol overdose at 1 a.m. The investigation is continuing. 3/26 • A non-student charged with DWI, possession of marijuana and failure to stop for a stop sign pled guilty, and sentencing was set for May 6. 3/26 • A student charged with DWI on an intoxilyzer result of .07% pled guilty to reckless driving and was assessed fines and costs. Another student charged with DWI and reckless driving pled guilty and was assessed fines and costs and seven days in the Jackson County Jail. 3/26 • A student charged with speeding to elude arrest and reckless driving pled guilty and was placed on probation for one year and fined $150 plus court costs. 3/26 • Officers warned a student about the skateboarding policy at 6:05 p.m. 3/26* A bank employee reported a fraudulent withdrawal on a student's account at 4:00 p.m. 3/26 • A Housing staff member reported an argument between a male and female at Harrill at 7:55 p.m. Officers responded and calmed the situation. 3/26 • Officers responded to a blue light box activation at Hunter Library at 8:05 p.m. The activation was apparently a prank. 3/26 • Officers referred a student to Student Development for violation of the campus alcohol policy at 12:14 a.m. 3/26 • A student reported that a set of keys and credit cards had been stolen from her while she was visiting in Leatherwood at 2:10 a.m. Another student reported that his meal card was stolen from another room. Officers found the property outside on the ground. They questioned and banned a non student suspected of committing the offenses. 3/26 • Officers referred a student to Student Development for urinating in a parking lot near Leatherwood at 12:18 a.m. 3/26 • An employee at the radio station reported smelling smoke at 2:45 a.m. The odor was coming from the steam plant. 3/26 • A student reported a vehicle leaking some type of fuel near Albright at 4:32 a.m. Officers contacted the owner.
