  • February 8,1996 Western Carolinian Features Acting Auditions Announced by Sebastian Fields Staff Reporter There is good news for anyone interested in theatre. Two opportunities for summer jobs and a "foot in the door" to acting have arisen. The North Carolina Shakespeare Festival will be holding auditions for 1996 Main Stage acting company March 16-17 in High Point, NC. The season will include Edmond Rostand's "Cyrano de Bergerac" as well as Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night" and "The Winter's Tale." The auditions will be held from 12-5 p.m. at the Holt McPherson Center at 305 North Main Street. Auditions are by appointment only and may be scheduled by calling the festival's administrative office at (910) 841-2273. Actors should be prepared to perform two contrasting Shakespeare monologues. The Institute of Outdoor Drama will be holding auditions for summer jobs on March 23. Fifteen outdoor historical dramas from across the nation will audition actors, singers, dancers and technicians at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The auditions are open to anyone 18 years or older with previous theatre experience. The program is a good chance for nonunion performers to build credit toward membership in Actor's Equity, the professional union for actors and stage managers. To request an application or more information, send a self- addressed, stamped business envelope to: Auditions Coordinator, Institute of Outdoor Drama, CB# 3240, Nations Bank Plaza, UNC-CH, Chapel Hill, NC 27599. You can also access the Institute's web page at http:/ / www.unc.edu / depts / outdoor / index.htm.
