  • Western Carolinian September 7,1995 News Photo by Tracy McLamb Bardo Pitches In! Western Carolina University Chancellor John W. Bardo, along with 70 other members of the faculty and staff and about 100 students, volunteered for WCU's inaugural Welcome Program on Sunday, Aug. 20. The volunteers were posted at the entrance of resident halls around campus to assist the returning students in moving their belongings curbside to the students' rooms. There were plenty of tired legs, but happy faces, by the end of the day. Randy Rice, WCU director of housing, said the assistance was much appreciated by the students and their parents, and he expects it will be the start of a WCU tradition. In the photograph, Chancellor Bardo (left) unloads two bean-bag chairs while WCU freshman Donna Brown directs the activity. He plans on doing this by communicating more with students via e-mail and placing a copy machine in the student lobby, along with juice and snack machines. Wade said, "This will be necessary especially when the UC undergoes reinvention." He also plans on strengthening ties with the business community and bringing in more outside speakers. Wade also hopes to "update the curriculum to put it more in line with current business trends." He has already converted the auditorium into a multimedia center, and he is currently working on running fiber optic cables into every faculty office. Wade hopes to have his ambitious agenda completed by the end of his one- WCU Men's Basketball Investigated CULLOWHEE - Western Carolina University Wednesday reported to the National Collegiate Athletic Association that it has received and is investigating allegations concerning its men's basketball program that might constitute NCAA rule violations.
